What is the Maternity Outcomes Matters project?

The overarching aim of the project is to reduce avoidable harm to mothers and babies which occurs during maternity care. The project will include the perspective and experiences of:

  • Families who have experienced harm
  • Representatives of charities and voluntary groups involved with the avoidance of harm
  • Health care professionals, coroners and policy makers

The key objectives of the project are:

  • To support the policies of professional groups and governmental polices where the aim is to reduce stillbirth, neonatal death and maternal injury and resulting psychological harm
  • Provide opportunities for voluntary organisations, campaigners and charities to collaborate on key projects and grant applications  and thereby enhance their collective influence
  • To highlight ‘recurring’ themes in the occurrence of adverse outcomes and, working closely with health care professionals, to promote workable solutions
  • To provide a forum for adverse outcome maternity groups to work together and collaborate
